On November 1st, the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Roleplay National Round 2025 in Japan, organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in cooperation with the Graduate Program on Human Security (HSP), the University of Tokyo, was held.
Representing Utsunomiya University, three third-year students from Associate Professor Hiroshige Fujii’s seminar — Ouka YOSHIDA, Taisho Ito, and Saya Miyoshi (School of International Studies) — participated and achieved second place.

In this competition, students assumed assigned roles such as humanitarian organizations, parties to armed conflict, and armed groups, engaging in simulated scenarios set in conflict zones. Through intensive negotiations and decision-making, participants explored how international humanitarian law is applied in practice.
The Utsunomiya University team prepared diligently, enhancing not only their legal expertise but also their practical decision-making and teamwork skills.
We are proud of their remarkable achievement and look forward to their continued growth and contribution to the study and practice of international humanitarian law.
